eBook file for Microsoft Reader

LIT is a file extension for an eBook file in the Microsoft LIT format. “LIT” is short for “literature.”

Programs that can open LIT files include Microsoft Reader and ConvertLit. Applications such as calibre and Convert Lit can be used to convert LIT files to other formats for reading on non-compatible devices or in non-compatible programs.

An add-on for Microsoft Word, called “Read in Microsoft Reader,” can be used to create eBooks as LIT files. The LIT file format includes digital rights management (DRM) to protect author copyright.

The LIT file format is based on the Microsoft Compressed HTML Help format.
