Giving honor to MY Ancestor, my Great Aunt Anna Mae Washington. Born on this day in 1905. She was/is the Sister to my Grandmother.
Auntie (as we affectionately called her) was like my best friend growing up. She was already 62 years old when I entered this earth realm, but she would always talk to me about EVERYTHING. grant it...she did a lot of gossiping too, but yet, I learned so much from her. I find myself doing some of the things that she use to do when she was finite.
I would comb her long, wavy, black and silver hair. She always wore it with two plats (braids) on the side and pinned together in the back of her head.
Every morning, I could count on Auntie being in the back yard, drinking her coffee. She had to have it with lots of cream and it had to have a saucer underneath the cup or else she didn't want it. She would sit outside for most of the day, just enjoying mama earth...swatting at the bugs...being accessible as family and friends would stop by to visit. Everyone knew that if you were looking for Anna Mae, just go to the back yard and that is where you would find her.
She use to always say, "ya'll gonna miss me when Eye'm gone"...she was so right. Although she departed this earth in 1986, I think about her...sometimes dream about her, and am thankful that she spent so much time with me..pouring in wisdom and knowledge.
